Automatic 1-step AtoMiC Sick Beard installer script for Ubuntu

Having covered the step-by-step installation of Sick Beard on Ubuntu, in this post I present an automatic 1-step Sick Beard Installer script for Ubuntu. For simplicity, I am going to call this script AtoMiC Sick Beard Installer (Automated Media Center).

Update (April 2015): AtoMiC Script has evolved into AtoMiC ToolKit with lot more features. AtoMiC Script is no longer maintained. Please use AtoMiC ToolKit instead.

Installation on Windows can be very simple but installing Sick Beard on Ubuntu requires several steps. Essentially, this installer is similar to my 1-step CouchPotato installer. It will automatically run through various steps described in my Ubuntu Sick Beard installation guide with little or no effort from the user. It will automatically install and start Sick Beard for you but if you prefer to do this yourself you are welcome to follow my full guide. In fact, I strongly urge that you read the full guide first and then come back here if you still prefer to use the 1-step Sick Beard installer script. This way you will know what the script does. So here we go.

What does the AtoMiC Sick Beard Installer script do?

When you run the Sick Beard installer script, it first gives your basic instructions and warnings, then updates packages, installs essential packages, checks and backups previous Sick Beard installations, downloads the latest Sick Beard from github, creates and installs an autostart script for you, and starts Sick Beard in the browser for initial setup. Below is a summary of what you will see in your commandline when the script runs:

user@ubuntu:~$ ./sb-installer.sh
--->Sick Beard installation will start soon. Please read the following carefully.
1. The script has been confirmed to work on Ubuntu and other Ubuntu based distros, including Mint, Kubuntu, Lubuntu, and Xubuntu.
2. While several testing runs identified no known issues, htpcbeginner.com or the author cannot be held accountable for any problems that might occur due to the script.
3. If you did not run this script with sudo, you maybe asked for your root password during installation.
4. If git and python are not installed they will be installed during the process. These packages are required for Sick Beard to run.

Press y/Y and enter to AGREE and continue with the installation or any other key to exit: y

Downloading and Running AtoMiC Sick Beard Installer Script

Download the script using the download button below:

Version: 1 (October 03, 2013) - Initial Release
Version: 2 (April 13, 2014) - Updated script to work with Trusty Tahr

Update (April 2015): AtoMiC Script has evolved into AtoMiC ToolKit with lot more features. AtoMiC Script is no longer maintained. Please use AtoMiC ToolKit instead.

For some reason if you would like to open/edit the script in Windows, use Notepad++ (Windows Notepad may not open the script correctly). After downloading, ensure that the script has execute privileges:

sudo chmod +x sb-installer.sh

Then, run the Sick Beard installer script using the following command:

sudo ./sb-installer.sh

Unless you encounter any errors during installation, Sick Beard should open up in a browser in about 10-20 seconds after the 1-step Sick Beard installer script finishes. You may watch the whole process in action in the video guide below.

Accessing Sick Beard Web Interface

Sick Beard runs on port 8081 by default. So you can access the Sick Beard web interface by going to:

http://localhost:8081

If your Sick Beard server is on your internal network and doesn't block port 8081 you can also access it through its network IP address (see example below):

http://192.168.0.20:8081

If you have port forwarding enabled on your router and you have a domain name referring your server running Sick Beard, you may also view your Sick Beard App through the internet using your domain name:

http://domain.com:8081

For now, http://localhost:8081 should be enough.

Configure Sick Beard

After you install Sick Beard, you can configure it as described in the following post: How to Configure Sick Beard?. It explains all the settings in detail with screenshots. After configuring your Sick Beard, you may return to this post and continue. In order to make Sick Beard function properly, you will have to install and configure SABnzbd to listen to download requests from Sick Beard. Please refer to my SABnzbd installation guide and configuration guide to properly automate downloading TV shows. As mentioned earlier, you also require a reliable Usenet account. You may get a free Usenet account as described in this post, or go with a reliable Usenet service from Newshosting, NewsDemon, or Astraweb.
