If you are a user of Plex Media Server on Ubuntu or any other OS, you probably know that you need lots of space to store your media. You can easily browse and manage your media with an app like Plex App for Android, however, the media will reside on a physical drive at your place. Plex Cloud Amazon Drive combination? What does it do?

Plex has worked together with Amazon to bring Plex Cloud, or what they call “the simplest way to run Plex”. Forget about setting up your own server. With an Amazon Drive account and Plex Cloud subscription, you can store unlimited media on your account. The total cost would be comparable to that of a Netflix membership, but you can store your own media and enjoy it anywhere. Plus, you won’t have to keep a physical media server powered on your house, so that might mean important savings regarding electricity costs.

This alternative to traditional Plex Server setups will allow people with little to no technical knowledge about how to setup their own server to enjoy Plex without having to configure any hardware or perform any software installation. It’s as simple as signing up, linking your Amazon Drive to your Plex Account, then uploading the content and enjoying it. With so many new options such as this one, as well as NVIDIA SHIELD Plex Server, we see an expansion of the uses of Plex in HTPC setups, and will continue to see more of it as more people get a glimpse of the wonderful ways to access their media that will be unlocked to them once they have a Plex Server up and running, even if they have no physical device to show for it.
